University of Georgia China Study Abroad Program
Join us as we travel to China to learn about advertising and public relations in one of the fastest emerging markets in the world. Offered through the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at the University of Georgia, our study abroad program provides an unparalleled learning experience for students who want to visit China to see and learn about one of the future centers of brand communication.
The UGA Global Advertising and Public Relations Study Abroad Program in China offers an academic course (3 credit hours) centered on current practices of advertising, public relations, digital media, brand communication, integrated marketing communication, and government relations in China. The course is offered during summer term: mid-May to early June session.
Students will expand their global perspectives by visiting the most dominant emerging market in the world. With the advertising and public relations profession growing over 30% each year — coupled with incredible economic growth – it is an excellent time to learn about the opportunities for marketing communication in China.
- We will visit the influential cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong. All three cities offer a 360-degree view of Chinese industry and scenic beauty. We will stay at local universities at each of these locations.
- You will also visit some of the leading agencies, media organizations, and brands in China. Stops may include: Daniel J. Edelman China Group, Ruder Finn China, Ogilvy China, the Shanghai Public Relations Association, and Modern Advertising, just to name a few. We will interact with local professionals to hear how brand communication must be adapted to Chinese audiences.
- Don’t forget about the Great Wall and other cultural sites. We will also engage in cultural trips and weekend excursions such as a visit to Great Wall, among other places.
Who should apply
The UGA Global Advertising and Public Relations in China Study Abroad Program is open to university students in the United States who are majoring, minoring or simply interested in advertising, public relations, digital and other forms of communication. Students in the program can earn three hours of upper-level academic credit offered by the University of Georgia. Courses are taught by faculty members in the highly-ranked Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communication.
The program offers an exciting glimpse into practice with students getting to see first-hand how multi-national advertising and public relations agencies work in China. You will also meet people who lead important international communication efforts. This program provides a tremendous professional boost to those who either want to—or are considering—working in the global world of brand communication.
